Create the traffic routing records so queries resolve through WebOptiva

The routing step is the only part of setup that changes how the internet finds your site: you publish the traffic record so queries for the hostname are answered by WebOptiva. It is also the step that unlocks automatic SSL, because certificate issuance follows the same record.

1. See which record is needed#

In Setup → Setup workflow, the group 2. Add your origin server comes first. Once ownership and origin checks pass, the next group unlocks: 3. Route traffic to enable automatic SSL, which shows as Locked until then with the hint This record unlocks after ownership and origin checks pass. Inside it you get a second record card labelled Live traffic routing with the same Type, Name / host, and Target / value fields and the subtitle This record routes public traffic through Weboptiva and enables automatic SSL.

2. Create the traffic record#

At your DNS provider create the record exactly as the card shows it. Type is presented as CNAME (or ALIAS if your provider uses an apex alias), Name / host is the hostname — usually @ for a root domain or the subdomain label — and Target / value points at WebOptiva. Copy each value with the adjacent copy buttons rather than retyping it.

3. Publish and verify#

Press Check DNS records again. The platform checks in group 4. We secure and prepare the website automatically — Origin reachable, SSL certificate, Delivery configuration, and Live traffic detected — are re-read from public DNS, and each reports Ready, Needs attention, or Waiting. Live traffic detected is the check that proves the record now resolves through WebOptiva.

4. Know what not to touch#

Only edit the records the panel names. MX, email, and unrelated TXT records must stay exactly as they are; the panel keeps this warning permanently visible because removing them breaks mail for the same hostname.

Expected result#

Step 4 of the workflow, Route website traffic, turns Completed, the routing record card gains the Done badge, and Live traffic detected reports Ready. Nothing about your live site has changed yet — WebOptiva only starts serving once you deploy, which is covered in Activate and accelerate.

Root domains and subdomains differ#

The panel adapts its guidance to the domain you added, because providers express apex and subdomain routing differently. The same domain always produces the same record set, so you can recreate or re-check it later without wondering whether anything rotated.
